Medical Aesthetic Trends to Look Out for in 2022
- Posted on: Jan 21 2022
As the new year kicks off, we’re asking Dr. Munk what he thinks the upcoming trends in aesthetic medicine will be. With over ten years of experience in cosmetic dermatology, he is the go-to person to ask about aesthetic procedures. To learn about the six aesthetic face and body treatments he foresees, keep reading!
#1: Anti-Zoom Boom
With the ever-increasing Zoom fatigue, people are eager to ditch the virtual world and jump back into in-person life again. During the pandemic, most people felt they could hide behind computer screens and avoid video chats. With hopes to return to in-person gatherings and events, Dr. Munk predicts that more people will head over to clinics for touch-up treatments, such as lasers, fillers, Botox. People will want to look and feel their best, in-person.
#2: Chin Enhancement
Since the pandemic, chin enhancements have become more popular than ever before, and are not showing any signs of slowing down any time soon. People seek these enhancements to create a better facial balance to improve their side profile. Not only does it help make the neck look longer, but it also makes the submental angle look deeper, helping to achieve a more youthful look. For temporary improvement, chin filler is an option for people looking to enhance their appearance.
#3: Combining Treatments
Whether it’s injectables or lasers, there are many benefits to combining different procedures. Dr. Munk strongly believes in a combination approach to help you achieve your skin goals in the most efficient way. Sometimes injectable neuromodulators (ie: Botox) and fillers are not enough. By supplementing the treatment plan with lasers or radiofrequency treatments, patients can expect to achieve their desired results.
That’s why MunkMD creates treatment plans that are 100% individualized to the patients’ needs and goals, which oftentimes includes a combination approach.
#4: New Injectables
New hyaluronic acid-based fillers made their appearance in 2021, like Restylane Contour. In 2022, we can expect to see more hyaluronic acid, hyper-diluted and bio stimulatory fillers being used to stimulate collagen, elastin production, and more.
As for neurotoxins, Revance, a biotech company that produces innovative aesthetic and therapeutic offerings, is seeking FDA approval of their proprietary daxibotulinum toxin (DAXI). The product’s goal? To increase the longevity of neuromodulators from the standard 12-16 weeks to an average of 6 months.
#5: The Brow Lift
A true brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that physically lifts the muscles and subcutaneous tissue, which raises the brow area in the process. Due to the downtime associated with a forehead lift, many people opt for a minimally invasive Botox-brow lift.
Unlike the surgical alternative, the Botox brow lift temporarily lifts the eyebrows through the strategic placement of a neurotoxin. The injection relaxes the brow muscles, creating a lifting effect that lasts as long as the toxin remains active, between 3-5 months.
#6: Radio Frequency Skin Tightening
Gone are the days when patients were restricted to surgery-only procedures to treat skin laxity concerns on the face or body. Radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening technology can improve the appearance of loose and sagging skin. Treatments such as Ultherapy and Morpheus8 use RF technology to tighten skin on different areas of the body, like the neck, jawline, abdomen and more.
