Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels have been used for decades in medical cosmetology. They work by applying an acid solution that removes the outermost layer of the skin and gives the skin a younger, healthier appearance. Chemical Peels play an important role in skin rejuvenation by improving the appearance of large pores, age spots and sun damage, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and by improving the overall complexion of the skin.

Glycolic and Jessner Peel Treatment

Depending on the underlying condition, Dr. Munk will choose between a glycolic peel and Jessner peel. A glycolic peel is an exceptional cosmetic option for individuals seeking smoother, youthful, and more radiant skin. Glycolic peel uses a mild Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane to produce a light peel of the outermost damaged layers of the skin. Glycolic acid peels work to remove the unhealthy layers of skin and unblock the follicles to reduce and prevent acne. These peels also penetrate into the skin to rejuvenate and regenerate collagen and elastin. A Jessner peel is a popular medium-depth chemical peel that is considered stronger than most superficial chemical peels. It consists of three main ingredients: lactic acid (assists in the exfoliation of the skin), salicylic acid (aids in penetration), and resorcinol (assists in the treatment of acne). Jessner peels target hyperpigmentation from the sun, minimize fine lines, assist the treatment of melasma, and even out skin texture while minimizing pore size. Dr. Munk has helped many patients refresh and revitalize their facial appearance with chemical peel treatments at his private practice in Montreal, Quebec.

During treatment, the patient’s skin is thoroughly cleansed and the peel is applied. Depending on whether the peel needs to be neutralized, the peel will either be left on the skin or it will be removed and a lightweight moisturizer or a calming mask is applied at the end of the treatment. The downtime for a chemical peel can vary depending on the type of peel and how many coats are applied.

For a lighter peel, patients may experience mild redness for a few hours and a mild flaking for 1-2 days following the treatment. For stronger peels, it is possible for patients to experience dry, tight skin with slight redness and heightened sensitivity that can last 2-4 days. When the old, damaged skin has peeled away, patients will be left with more refreshed, glowing skin.

Chemical peels are suitable for most people whether they are peeling for the first time or using peels as a maintenance program. In general, they can be used as stand-alone procedures, however best results are achieved through combining a peel with good skin care.

Cellular Growth Factor Therapy (CGF) Montreal

Cellular Growth Factor Therapy (CGF) is a high concentration of platelets surrounded in its own plasma. This process has been shown to be beneficial since there are lots of favorable growth factors and nutrients in CGF that help to stimulate collagen remodeling as well as improvements in skin quality and texture. This technique is helpful in treating fine lines under the eyes, cheeks, neck and chest. Studies have even shown benefit for male and female hair thinning, since CGF has so many desirable proteins that help to strengthen hair and prevent further thinning and loss. Since the CGF is derived from the patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection, and this is considered by many to be the most “natural” injection to enhance the radiance of the skin.

The process is simple; we draw blood similarly to routine blood tests. That blood is subsequently spun in a centrifuge in order to separate out the platelets from the rest of the blood. The CGF is then activated to release essential growth factor and nutrient proteins into the plasma, which is then applied onto the skin for optimal results. Collagen stimulating factor, epidermal growth factor, keratinocyte growth factor are some the important proteins contained in CGF that result in a natural enhancement of the skin.

There are a few different ways the CGF can reach the targeted dermis underneath the skin. In the eye area, CGF is sometimes injected in the same manner as a dermal filler, and this allows for improvement of fine lines and wrinkles. At MunkMD, Dr. Munk will often use CGF after laser treatment to enhance the results with laser surgery and add to the improvement in skin texture. The theory is simple. The fractionated laser will create tiny little openings in the skin in order to stimulate collagen, and the CGF will subsequently be rubbed on the skin, penetrate the openings, and reach the target endpoint which is the collagen in the dermis. This process will enhance the laser’s efficacy in improving and tightening the skin, while also speeding recovery from the laser. This process is often very helpful to improve acne scarring, wrinkles, skin laxity, and fine lines. Finally, the other way CGF can be administered is after microneedling, where multiple small openings are created in the skin, similar to laser, and the CGF in then applied directly on the skin.

When it comes to alopecia, CGF is often injected directly in the scalp in the areas of thinning. The growth factors create a favorable environment to slow the process, and even stimulate some regrowth of new hairs. Many new studies have shown promise using CGF for multiple different types of alopecia.

To obtain the desired endpoint, usually 3-4 treatments done monthly are required. The results are then usually appreciated a few months later as new collagen is formed. As this technique is natural and uses a person’s own blood, side effects and risks to the treatment are rare.

Exosomes: The Latest Advancement in Cosmetic Dermatology

Exosomes are tiny vesicles that are naturally present in the body and play an important role in cell-to-cell communication. They contain a variety of growth factors, enzymes, and other molecules that can help repair and regenerate damaged cells. In recent years, exosomes have been used in the field of cosmetic dermatology to improve skin and hair health.
At MunkMD, we use exosomes in combination with advanced technologies like Jet peel, microneedling, and laser treatments to enhance results and speed up recovery. The Jet peel is a painless, non-invasive treatment that uses a high-pressure jet of saline solution to deliver exosomes to the skin. This helps to hydrate, plump, and firm the skin, resulting in a more youthful, radiant appearance.

Microneedling is another popular treatment that can be used in conjunction with exosomes. This treatment involves creating tiny punctures in the skin using fine needles. These punctures trigger the body’s natural healing response and promote collagen production. When combined with exosomes, microneedling can lead to even more dramatic results, including a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Laser treatments are also an excellent way to boost the effects of exosomes. Lasers can be used to target specific skin issues like hyperpigmentation, age spots, and rosacea. When combined with exosomes, laser treatments can lead to even more dramatic results, including a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Exosomes are a safe and effective option for men and women of all ages and skin types. At MunkMD, our team of experienced professionals will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your individual needs and goals. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and start your journey to healthier, more youthful-looking skin.

What is Jetpeel?

Jetpeel is a technology that combines compressed gases (air, medical O2 or CO2) with active ingredients to deliver solutions deep into the skin without needles or without injuring the epidermis. It is a one of a kind technology that can effectively treat and prevent various skin conditions and concerns without any downtime.

How deep do the active ingredients penetrate the skin?

The combination of the gases with the serums form a subsonic jetstream of microdroplets that are delivered up to 4mm deep into the skin at a speed of 447 mph (720 km/h) without causing injury to the skin.

What skin conditions are commonly treated with Jetpeel?

Jetpeel has been shown to prevent aging of the skin and can help restore the normal youthfulness of the skin with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vegetable stem cells. Antioxidant serums like vitamin C can help even out the skin tone and brighten brown spots and pigmentation. Specific acne serums are very helpful in treating inflammation and pimples associated with acne and hormonal changes. All skin types and skin colors can do this procedure, even the most sensitive skin types, because there is no damage to the overlying skin. Even PRP (platelet rich plasma) can be delivered into the skin (to improve fine lines, pore size, wrinkles and skin texture) or the scalp (for both male and female pattern hair loss).

How many treatment sessions are recommended?

Generally we recommend 4-6 treatment sessions for best results. Treatment protocols can vary, especially when other technologies are involved in a protocol. Jetpeel combines very nicely with other laser treatments, and will immediately improve skin quality, even if performed in the same session. There is no downtime or pain with this treatment. Dr. Munk and his team will recommend the protocol that is best suited for your skin goals.

Can Jetpeel be done prior to an event (wedding, celebration…)?

Jetpeel is such a gentle treatment, we recommend doing it on the day of your event to improve your glow. Your skin will be more even, smooth, soft and will have a magical glow on the day of your event.

What are the different steps in the Jetpeel process?

All steps are carried out with the jetpeel technology and are done sequentially. Step 1 is to stimulate the lymphatic drainage of the skin, to stimulate micro-circulation. Step 2 is exfoliation, where either a mild exfoliant or a glycolic serum is infused with the Jetpeel to clean the pores and remove natural and environmental skin debris. Step 3 is infusion, where the appropriate serum is infused up to 4mm into the skin.

What are the benefits of Jetpeel PRP ?

PRP is derived from your own blood, so it is considered a very natural treatment. There are growth factors and nutrients that help restore youthfulness in the skin and improve collagen remodeling, pore size, texture and fine lines. It is great for undereye aging, and somebody seeking natural skin improvement. It is also beneficial to prevent thinning of the hair and to even stimulate regrowth, so it is a natural way to help keep your hair. The benefit of Jetpeel PRP is that it is delivered without any needles, downtime or discomfort. A much more comfortable and painless procedure with the same incredible results!
