What is dermatology?

A medical study of skin, hair and nails.


Do I need a referral to see the dermatologist?

Dr. Munk is a private dermatologist and referrals are not necessary to book an appointment.


Do you treat children?

The treatment of children is a speciality and Dr. Munk sees patients over the age of 16 years old.


Do I really need to take care of my skin?

The skin is the largest organ in the body. Taking care of it should be a priority.


How long will my appointment be?

Appointments are generally 20 minutes but the doctor will take the time needed to properly assess you and determine the necessary care.


What happens if I miss my appointment?

As with most private clinics, there is a cancellation policy in place to ensure the proper flow of the clinic. A 48 hours notice is needed to avoid paying a fee.


I’m very busy and have full day job. Do you have early or late appointments?

As much as possible we try to accommodate our patients and have opening hours that are standard to most clinics.


At what age is it recommended to introduce daily skin care products?

With very young children we recommend at least regular sun block protection. Our philosophy is that it is never too early to take care of what is so important to us, our skin.


Who will be performing my BOTOX or filler injections?

With the expertise of being a dermatologist, Dr. Munk does all facial injections personally.


What is the difference between BOTOX and restylane/perlane/juvederm?

Botox™ Cosmetic is an injectable used to relax expression muscles and improve dynamic wrinkles very naturally. Restylane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid fillers which give beautiful, long lasting results and are very effective at restoring youthful volume and appearance.


Are Injectable fillers such as restylane, perlane or juvederm safe?

Yes, Injectables now differ from those of the past. Today’s fillers can now be done safely in a 30-minute time period with minimal discomfort and essentially no downtime.


Is Botox safe?

Botulinum Toxin (Botox™, Dysport™, Xeomin™) is a naturally occurring substance that has been used in the cosmetic industry for over 20 years.

How often will I need Botox?

Results are temporary and need to be repeated typically every 4-5 months.


How often will I need fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the safest on the market and results can last anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years, depending on the type of filler and the area injected.


How can I improve the vertical lines around my lips?

A combination treatment of Botulinum Toxin and fillers can achieve the desired results in a beautiful and natural way.


Is the process painfull?

Much care is put into the placement and technique of the treatment with very minimal discomfort.


How do you treat large broken blood vessels in and around the nose?

One of our technologies, the Excel V™ is considered by many as the gold standard for treating vascular and pigmented lesions. It delivers optimal results, while ensuring the skin is properly protected by a unique cooling mechanism built into the laser.


How do I improve my dull complexion?

Nothing works better than IPL to lighten and brighten the skin. IPL will rejuvenate the skin, even out you complexion and lead to a smoother and brighter looking skin. Photofacials are commonly done at MunkMD, and enhance the radiance and clarity of the skin to make people look years younger.


Do lasers work on all skin tones?

The answer is yes and no. Some do and some don’t, but at MunkMD whatever area or concern you are looking to treat, we will have a solution with one of our technologies or treatment protocols.


My doctor told me I have age spots on my hands and face. How can these be removed?

The first step is to have them assessed to confirm that they are age spots and not something more serious. Either way there are multiple treatments available and can be discussed after the diagnosis.
